June 21st, 2009 Third day of Solstice.
In the morning after I ate breakfast. I talked to a woman for forty minutes. Jeremiah cooked very good meat and his wife brought some to me. This Island is very small but really beautiful and people around and some musicians and singers near the ocean played guitar and sang songs. I took photos and recorded their songs, after lunch all the men met together for Arlen. All the men talked to Arlen about their experiences and how to be a good person and have a good future. Arlen is fifteen years old. But he wanted to be adult, a man. We had 21 men. Arlen didn’t eat food for three days. So when we were talking he ate some dessert and all the people handed around that food. Forty minutes later all the men swam, Women meeting for Ellen and Marta in the teepee, they talked about their experiences for Ellen and Marta. Sounds like education. Ellen is seventeen years old and Marta is sixteen years old. But they want to be adult women, after meeting one hour later. Arlen used a kayak to come and Ellen and Marta used a boat. We played different instruments and said welcome and congratulated them. We had five photographers but only Gregg took photos. We made a big circle and played a little game. Then three adults they gave us little presents and their parents gave them some gifts. Karen gave her daughter a book. When Karen read a poem I was next to her and I cried a lot, because Karen’s husband dead five months ago. I thought about Karen and her kids. I couldn’t stop crying I had a lot of tears, really sad. C.B. was on my left, she cried too. Forty five minutes later all the fathers with kids went to another place. Kids gave to fathers’ flowers and they said “happy fathers’ day” and sang a fathers song and the kids massaged to fathers. Irene massaged me. When she gave me a massage I missed my daughter Tserang Tso. I sang with Rosie and Kristin. We ate all the food and drank together and in the night we made a big fire and put cedar on the fire and prayed. After prayer we played drums and women danced. At3:00 a m Gregg and Greg took off their clothes and danced a woman did the same and danced another four women wanted to take off their clothes. But I don’t know what happened. They didn’t, I took off my shirt then danced. At 5:10 a.m. it got light and some kids slept near the fire. Jaime and some men still drank beer and talked. I went to bed. My wife’s body was really warm.In the morning after I ate breakfast. I talked to a woman for forty minutes. Jeremiah cooked very good meat and his wife brought some to me. June 20th, 2009 Second day of Solstice.
Today was the second day of solstice, June 20th. When was eating breakfast Jeremiah and some people arrived on our Island. I practiced drumming for three hours because I didn’t practice drum before. I worried about when we play drums at night and I was worried I would make a mistake. C.B. made two Sandwiches for us. After lunch I continued to practice drumming and I saw a lot of seals. The weather was very good. In the afternoon we worked a little for solstice to pick up fire wood and made the teepee and put the solstice flag in the tree and we made a big circle and new people who came introduced themselves. Then we ate all the food together and there were a lot and so many different foods. Because all the people arrived here today, the young girls hot-tubbed on the big boat and sometimes they swam. Tonight at 10:45 the moon change and we went to good place near the ocean and Shantparv brought some quartz and cedar to put on a little fire, then people were seated and faceed east for thirty minutes meditation and prayer for the moon. I don’t know what the people were thinking when we prayed to the moon. But I asked for blessing to Buddha and Dharma and Sangha prayer to moon, also I chanted some important Buddhist prayer to the moon and all the world tonight. At 11:20 pm we started to play drums and I didn’t make mistakes too much when I played with the drummers. I know I need more practice drumming. Women danced around the fire also sometimes they sang a lot of songs. People brought many instruments. We played really good music. I record their some songs. Not too late. People were tired and they mostly went to bed. C.B. went to bed, too. I still played with some drummers. But the sound was not to good. When I went to bed someone slept like a stone near our tent. He snored very loudly.

June19th, 2009 First day in Solstice.
I woke up at 8:00, today is Friday and I won’t work. Because community people wanted go to an Island and pray during solstice. I thought we will leave at 11:30 but Gregg called us he said “we have to go, are you ready " then I ate breakfast very quickly and I brought a cup tea and drank in the truck. But I had no time to bring lunch. I went with gregg to the beach and put some stuff in Gregg’s boat. Paul Lewis said “Karjam we can go together in my boat” his boat is made of wood and very nice, Ellen and Marta went with Gregg. Other people used teacher Greg’s boat. That boat is big and very nice. Three boats went to a small Island together. We used a walkie-talkie and I took photos and recorded video. When we went to the small Island Gregg’s boat stopped and can’t start. Then we used teacher Greg’s boat to go to the small Island very slowly. But we still were first and nobody came there. People found good places near the ocean. I remember C.B. told me “Karjam you are first there so you choose a place near the ocean for our tent.” But I chose a bad place. After three hours some boats came. But C.B. didn’t come yet. I was very hungry. Gregg said before “Karjam here have some food if you want to eat” But I still chose to wait for our food and my wife. At 5:40 C.B. came in the last boat and she said “Honey are you hungry” yes I waited for you all day. Then we brought our stuffs went to our place she was not happy we weren’t near the ocean. After we ate some food we made our tent. At night we made a fire and talked to together. But the wind was very strong and many people went to bed, we went to bed, too. Near the ocean tents were unhappy because the wind was still very strong also our neighbors. My wife said “Honey I understand why you chose this place” there was not a lot of wind. And she talked about her parent’s story. I really liked to listen and I said “then and then” and she slept.

June 16th, 2009 My Early Birthday Party and Motorcycle.
Today was June 16th, 2009, Tuesday and I had my birthday party. My real birthday is June 23rd, but Cedar Bough (my wife) she will go back to LA on June 23rd, so family we thought June 16th is a good time everyone. Not too busy. Yesterday C.B. asked me “honey who is your best friend” I said “you are my best friend” she said “no not me I mean or other people on Lopez” I know why she asked me that. I really want someone to come to my birthday party. But I know Tuesday everyone was very busy. So I said I don’t have any friends on Lopez. Irene V called me she asked “Karjam what do you like for your birthday dessert I will make it for you. I said “I know all the desserts you make are good so I can’t choose.” Tuesday morning at 7:30 I went to work thirty minutes way. When I went to work my motorcycle stopped and it wouldn’t start. I am very angry because I paid $600.00 to the mechanic Alwen. I didn’t ride yet for five days and my motorcycle has the same problem as before. I finished work at 4:50 and then I came home. C.B. said “Nigel and Juniper and their father came to your birthday party. I am happy she invited my younger friend Nigel. Afternoon the party started at Zack & Irene’s home. Also Zack made a fire outside. C.B. and her family made good food. Then the family came and they gave me different presents and gave me hugs and say happy birthday and the kids also too, they were very lovely. After we ate food Juniper brought a big dessert on the top there were a lot of candles and the family sang the birthday song for me and C.B. kissed me she said “honey I bought two clothes for you and love you so much” then we ate and talked and the kids played with the dogs but I worried about my motorcycle maybe tomorrow I can’t go to work on my motorcycle. I still thought about the mechanic Alwen. What he would do to fix my motorcycle. This is my second birthday party in the U.S.A. I never had a birthday party in Tibet.
